The Guild of Guardians $200K share-to-earn program has ended — what’s next?

Introduction:

Well, it has been a crazy week or so!

ICYMI, We announced more details about our new title — Guild Of Guardians — last Thursday (six days ago), and it was met with outstanding reception.

The truth of the matter is that our team has always realised that NFTs would play a pivotal role in the future of blockchain gaming, and asset ownership/exchange. For too long, greedy game developers have hamstrung players of all different motivations and desires — trade-locking in-game items, and offering you no potential return on the investments you pour into their title (both from a time and money perspective). That’s why we decided to build this game, and that is also why we know it is a safe bet.

Our theories were proven correct with the recent explosion of NFTs, across all different facets. It seems a daily occurence that a new NFT sales record is broken, or a large VC fund backs an NFT/digital crypto project to the tune of a small fortune. Those with an appetite and understanding of the space are becoming quickly vindicated, whilst those who are new to the scene are quickly gaining a ravenous appetite to get their hands dirty.

But where do we fit in, and what is the point of this piece?

We have always wanted to champion and reward the community of Guardians who get on board early in backing our project. We see NFTs as just one vehicle to help achieve that. When we sat down in the beginning, we decided that an NFT giveaway would be a pretty good means of kicking that off. There’s no better way to reward early adopters, than to give them rare and digital items of value, directly pertaining to the title that will soon become the go-to mobile blockchain game.

We committed $200,000* of NFTs to people who pre-registered, referred their friends to do the same, and participated in a couple of other social activities.

And the results blew us away.

By the numbers:

We extinguished the $200K NFT giveaway pool on Friday last week (AEST), giving out the last 40% of the pool in just under 24 hours post the title announcement.

We currently have:

- More than 120,000 email pre-registrations for the title. That is an insane number, and it is growing daily.
- Nearly 35,000 Twitter followers, with 20,000 of those hitting that follow button in the last five days alone.
- 3,000 people in our Discord community, with hundreds of messages being sent daily.

Naturally, when a project grows this quickly, the workload in our backend increases exponentially. Lots of Guardians have questions around referrals, claiming their rewards, the pre-sale, and other things to do with the project more generally.

In keeping with the focus of this article — let’s dive into some of the burning questions that have been lighting up our various platforms over the last week or so.

When will I receive the reward/NFT that I earned from pre-registering and referring others?

NFT rewards cannot be claimed right now and will take a minimum of 1 month (if not more) to be distributed. We are currently doing an audit and check on the list of winners, and want to take our time to ensure no-one has fraudulently bypassed our referral system. We will most likely inform winners via email and distribute the NFTs in the Immutable X platform once it’s ready to go (spending less on gas means we can spend more on other things). Please do not message us about your rewards — we will post publically once we have contacted winners about the outcome.

Bots! (Grrr…)You’ve spoken about fraudulent sign-ups, bot activity, and other nefarious web activities during the pre-registration giveaway period. How are you identifying the sign-ups that aren’t legitimate? And how are you countering/dealing with it.

We thought ahead on this one, and made sure we had fairly extensive automated vetting processes. Some examples of these include:

- Automated duplicate IP flagging
- Flagging of temporary or beta email addresses
- Captcha user authentication technology
- Flagging of duplicate and ‘oddly similar’ email addresses
- Automated script checks
- Automated bot flagging

Along with these measures, there is also an element of manual auditing currently in progress, and we will keep you updated with those results. Fear not — those who tried to exploit our giveaway program will be caught — and they won’t receive any NFTs.

Are you giving away any more rewards/NFTs before the pre-sale goes live?

There will be no more referral rewards. We have set aside a much smaller scale giveaway pool for things such as Discord community events, contests and competitions.

I tried to pre-register, but it wouldn’t work — why not?

There is a known issue at the moment, where players are trying to sign-up, and getting the error: ‘Something went wrong. could you please try again’.

This is because (owing largely to the nefarious bot activity mentioned above… GRRR!) we are getting 2,000 sign-up requests a minute, whilst our 3rd party partner servers are only equipped to handle ~300.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix for this, but we are in talks with a third-party to find out a solution.

I referred my friends, but I didn’t get any points for it — why?

If you referred your friends and didn’t get any points for it, there is a chance that your referral got detected as fraudulent (for what could be a number of reasons, including duplicate IP’s, false emails, and other less than savoury actions).

Why were there $200k in rewards given?

We want to welcome a lot of players to the Guardian family, so (naturally) we wanted to incentivise sharing our title with friends. The game (as the name suggests) uses guilds as one of its core gameplay loops, and playing with friends will make it more fun. We capped the giveaway pool at $200k — because we wanted to ensure these heroes were scarce. If we were to give out significantly more than that, we would be doing so at the expense of the long-term balance of the game’s economy. It’s in everyone’s interest that we find a balance in our giveaways to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of Guild of Guardians!
