Introducing Gaming NFT Collectibles — and why our heroes aren’t just a JPG
We’re excited to reveal some of the heroes which will be sold in the founder sale, and explain why we don’t want them to just be JPGs, but to be aesthetic gaming NFT collectibles.
Where are gaming NFTs headed?
To date, most gaming NFT projects have not paid much attention to the presentation of their NFTs. The focus has been on the in-game utility that those NFTs have, rather than on their aesthetics. Which makes sense — they are focusing on building a good game!
Which led us to ask the question:
Why can’t gaming NFTs look as good as art NFTs?
We believe that gaming NFTs should be something you are proud to hang up on your wall, and play with in game. Almost like art. A deadly combination of provenance, utility and collectability.
In fact, one day it may be common place to see your favourite crypto artist’s work brought to life within the gaming metaverse
This is why we have tried to go above and beyond to create NFTs that players would want to show off — both in-game AND in real life.
How is Guild of Guardians different?
As a team we wanted to take a step in the right direction. As you can see below, it would have been completely possible for us to make a static image of a hero as the NFT asset. But we wanted to take it a step further. We want your gaming NFT to feel special.
Ultimately we settled on creating an NFT that was inspired by many of the recent popular art drops. A looping MP4 video, with audio, that immortalises each hero. Check out an example:
What’s next?
We’re not done, and neither is the industry. We hope other games will take this as an example and push the envelope when it comes to how they choose to display their gaming NFTs. We still have a few tricks up our sleeve too 🤫
